Dear colleagues!

Dear friends, friends!

Let me cordially greet you on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States and CIS Secretary General Sergey Nikolaevich Lebedev! He sends you a huge greeting and wishes us all fruitful and constructive work today. We express our gratitude for the invitation to take part in your event.

Today’s topic is very relevant for discussion: ‘The role of the women’s community in the modern world’. From a political perspective, the role of Commonwealth women in politics has been growing steadily over the past decades. Increasing the level of women’s activity in public, political and economic terms is one of the most important priorities in the Commonwealth. I note that gender issues form an important part of the political agenda of the CIS countries. Mechanisms for the protection of women’s civil, political, economic and social rights are being improved at the legislative level.

Women are represented in the politics of all CIS member States. They are deputies and senators, heads of municipalities, represent the legislative and executive branches of government, and influence constitutional development in their countries by holding high positions. Women are successful doctors, teachers, scientists, athletes and cosmonauts. They influence social policy, are involved in charity, the environment, culture and the media.

An important factor in expressing women’s positions and promoting gender equality is the participation of Commonwealth women in political dialogue on international platforms. The largest of these is the Eurasian Women’s Forum. Every three years, the EWF discusses the role of women in modern society, talks about the consolidation of the international women’s community in the name of peace, justice, harmony and social well-being. In 2015, this forum was initiated by Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

It is also very important that the women of the Commonwealth today accept the challenges they face and continue to uphold the universal values of humanism, rights and dignity that unite our peoples, as well as such values as the traditional family, education of the younger generation in the spirit of the traditions of their people. They play an important role in building a stable and secure future.

Dear friends! We are united by strong economic ties, culture, values, language, common victory. And here I would like to emphasise that the Heads of our states stress the special contribution of each member state of the Commonwealth to the historic victory.

Today, the joint efforts of our countries are focused on suppressing attempts to rewrite history and justify the crimes of Nazism, on preserving the war memorial heritage of the peoples of the CIS member States and on fostering a sense of pride in our common Great Victory. An example of this is the plan for the preparation and celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the Commonwealth in 2025, approved in Bishkek on 26 October 2023 at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS. The document envisages the holding of events dedicated to significant events and memorable dates. (Preparation of the relevant Appeal of the heads of the CIS member states to the peoples of the Commonwealth countries and the world community, establishment of a single jubilee medal ‘80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945’, holding military parades in the capitals and hero-cities of the CIS member states, work with young people, veterans, the work of searchers and much more).

I am sure that today’s event is another excellent opportunity for all of us to strengthen our partnership.

Therefore, I wish us all fruitful and constructive work and interesting dialogue today.
